UPS worker carjacked good Samaritan, spit on cops during arrest, police say

A UPS employee on his way to work carjacked a woman and later spit on officers as they were arresting him, South Brunswick police alleged.
Officers arrested Ikeice Bell, 34, of Monmouth Junction part of the township, on Monday, Oct. 28, on kidnapping, criminal restraint, carjacking, terroristic threats charges, plus two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, police said.
The incident started when a 59-year-old woman from Monroe Township witnessed a car crash on Ridge Road near a New Jersey Turnpike overpass in South Brunswick on that Monday night. The woman then pulled over in an attempt to help, according to police.
Bell then entered the passenger side of the good Samaritan’s car, told her that he had a gun and demanded that she drive him away from the scene, police said.
While driving, the woman discreetly texted her son, told him that she had been carjacked by an armed person and asked him to track the location on her phone.
The son alerted police around 11:30 p.m. and officers pulled the car over on Route 535 a short time later, police said.
Bell then allegedly spit on an officer who was leading him into the patrol car, attempted to spit on a second officer and made derogatory comments to EMTs who were treating him, police said.
Police learned that Bell was on his way to his job at UPS when he crashed his car.
No weapons were located during initial searches on the day of his arrest. Investigators are now seeking search warrants in the ongoing investigation.
Bell is in custody at Middlesex County jail pending his first court appearance.
