The design of the AK compass is generally similar to that of Adrianov’s compass, however, it has several innovations. Unlike Adrian’s compass, the AK compass is equipped with a hinged safety cover, on the inside of which there is a small mirror. This mirror can be used during sighting to observe the magnetic arrow and dial, which allows you to simultaneously verify the orientation of the compass and count the angle on the dial. The sighting slot and front sight are rigidly fixed to the compass case.
The ring limb of the compass AK has a scale marked in thousandths with a division price equal to 100 thousandths, which in a degree grid corresponds to an angle of 6 °. Signatures to the divisions are applied in increments of 500 thousandths.
On the protective glass of the compass, the headmaster is applied in the form of a bright white strip, which is precisely aligned with the zero direction of the limb. The magnetic needle of the compass AK is equipped with a brake that automatically activates when the hinged safety cover is closed.
For a more accurate use of the compass together with a topographic map and drawing directions, one of the sides of its base has a ruler scale with millimeter divisions.
